The buildings have that timeless quality so often achieved in winery architecture. The outlook over green lawns to vineyards and old gum trees demands lots of glass. The combination of walls of glass with corrugated iron on all sorts of angles and recycled timber beams and posts suits the setting perfectly. There are large decks for entertaining and a courtyard area with a large table and vine canopy for warm summer nights.
Inside are expansive living and dining areas, including a mezzanine level with dining for 8. Each of the 4 bedrooms has panoramic views through the gums to the vines.
The Retreat is operated by Punters Corner boutique winery. Bookings can be arranged through the website.
Consumer reviews generally score The Retreat 5/5 and comment on the serenity, proximity to all the wineries and the town of Penola (about 3 kms). There are also references to wildlife (we guess that means kangaroos).Tweet
