Cape Nelson State Park

Spectacular cliffs, diverse bird life, picturesque walks and picnic areas, the Soap Mallee (Eucalyptus diversifolia) found only on Cape Nelson, and the working lighthouse are some of the attractions for visitors to Cape Nelson State Park, 11 km south west of Portland along the Cape Nelson Road.  The drive also includes the spectacular Norman Wade Drive that takes in the rugged coastline of Capes Grant and Nelson.

There are a series of interlinked walks around Cape Nelson.  A 3 km loop takes in sea cliff-tops mixed with coastal scrublands and has some great ocean outlooks.  A loop can be extended to 6 km to reach the lighthouse.  The walk will take you through coastal heathland, Soap Mallee and several coastal outlook platforms.
